"To be honest, it was shocking to me,"
"Andrew Berry must be a lot smarter than me or us because it doesn't make sense to me to trade a quarterback that you think enough of to make your opening day starter to a division opponent that's hurting in that area, but that's just my personal feelings."
Mike Tomlin openly questioned Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry for trading veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals midseason. Tomlin called the move shocking and questioned the logic of sending a player you view as an opening-day starter to a division rival that needs help at the position. The Browns traded Flacco and a 2026 sixth-round pick to Cincinnati for a 2026 fifth-round pick, leaving Cleveland with rookie quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. The Bengals acquired Flacco to replace struggling Jake Browning. The Steelers beat the Browns 23-9 and will play the Bengals Thursday night in Cincinnati.
