Portland's Mercury requests small monthly contributions to support local news reporting, arts and culture coverage, and events. Today will be hot and muggy, with rain and cooler temperatures expected next week. Oregon Senate action on a transportation funding bill is paused pending the return of Democrat Senator Chris Gorsek, who is experiencing health issues; the Senate is now expected to take up the vote on September 17. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will begin charging day-use parking and increasing camping and RV hook-up fees at some of the busiest parks to fill a budget deficit and maintain outdoor spaces; new $10 parking fees will apply at 21 state parks, including Beverly Beach and Bullards Beach.
If you're reading this, you probably know the value of the Mercury's news reporting, arts and culture coverage, event calendar, and the bevy of events we host throughout the year. The work we do helps our city shine, but we can't do it without your support. If you believe Portland benefits from smart, local journalism and arts coverage, please consider making a small monthly contribution, because without you, there is no us. Thanks for your support!
Visiting an Oregon state park? You might have to pay a little more than you're used to. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will begin charging day-use parking fees and increasing camping/RV hook-up fees at some of the busiest state parks. The charges are meant to help fill a department budget deficit and help maintain Oregon's beautiful outdoor spaces. The new, $10 parking fees will apply at 21 state parks, including a few beaches (like Beverly Beach and Bullards Beach)
