"PLC announces the retirement of its Artistic Director, Mary McCarty, following 11 years of inspired leadership and artistic excellence."
"Mary has been a true legend in Portland's LGBTQIA+ choral community. Shoutout in the coming months will be sharing memories and accolades of Mary's tenure at PLC, but in the meantime the choir starts the search for a new musical leader."
"Mary is such an important part of our history. So says the entire choral community. Cheers and thank you, Mary McCarty."
Mary McCarty is retiring as Artistic Director of Portland Lesbian Choir after 11 years of leadership marked by significant artistic growth and community impact. Under her direction, the choir expanded from its original size to nearly 200 members, broadening its influence within Portland's choral community. McCarty's contributions to Portland's musical landscape extend beyond her PLC tenure, including her previous roles as Associate Director and twice as Interim Director of the Portland Gay Men's Chorus. Her final concert with PLC, titled "Queer Joy is our Resistance," is scheduled for June 20 and 21 at Parkrose Performing Arts Center. The choir has begun searching for a new musical leader to continue McCarty's legacy.
