Pomella, an Oakland restaurant specializing in California-Israeli cuisine, will close at the end of May due to financial difficulties. Chef and owner Mica Talmor expressed her sadness over the closure, stating that the restaurant has struggled to remain financially viable since opening in 2020. Despite receiving accolades and community support, rising costs and decreasing revenue led to the decision to close. In its final weeks, Pomella plans to feature special events and menu items, with no clear future for Talmor or the team beyond closure.
Unfortunately, Pomella has not been able to sustain itself financially for a while now, and it is truly with a broken heart that I am forced to shut it down.
Just like you, we've been experiencing rising costs: the cost of goods and ingredients, occupancy costs, labor costs breathing costs.
