""When you read content on X, you should be able to verify its authenticity," Bier posted on X. "This is critical to getting a pulse on important issues happening in the world.""
"the platform is currently testing out a new profile display that lists what country the user is based in, when they joined the site, how the user accessed X, and how many username changes the account has undergone."
"Bier says there will be "toggles" which will allow users to make specific information private in order to protect certain users' privacy. However, Bier says any information that's configured by a user will be highlighted so other users know too."
X dropped its legacy verification system when it was still known as Twitter, and the blue badge is now purchasable through X Premium. The purchasable verification model allowed spammers and provocateurs to weaponize verified status, undermining trust. X is testing a new profile display that shows an account's posting country, join date, access method, and number of username changes. Profile location will reflect where the account actually posts from rather than a user-entered field. Toggles will let users hide specific fields for privacy, while any configured information will be highlighted for others to see. X may add or remove fields during testing.
