Two patients have filed a class action lawsuit after a physical therapist at KU Health accessed and breached the medical records of more than 400 patients from Plastic Surgery Specialists of Lawrence. The lawsuit claims these patients experienced significant privacy violations, as their health records were accessed by someone with no affiliation to the clinic and who had not treated any of the plaintiffs. This case highlights concerns regarding the protection of sensitive medical information and the serious implications of privacy invasions in healthcare.
At least 425 patients of Plastic Surgery Specialists of Lawrence, an affiliate of LMH, suffered grave invasions of their privacy when their most intimate health information and medical files were accessed by a physical therapist employed by KU Health.
The undisclosed patients are suing through a class action on behalf of themselves and the other women targeted.
