Telecom Industry Needs Better Cybersecurity Management: Study
"Despite 96% of organizations claiming to have a comprehensive cyber-response plan, many aren’t effectively executed, revealing a dangerous gap in readiness for incidents."
"The State of Enterprise Cyber Crisis Readiness report highlights that 71% experienced a high-impact cybersecurity event, emphasizing the disconnect between planning and execution."
"Most organizations fail to be 'battle-ready' due to issues like poor cross-team communication, outdated plans, unclear roles, and an excessive number of disparate tools."
"Telecom companies specifically reported high-impact cybersecurity events at nearly double the rate of companies in other sectors, underscoring an urgent need for effective strategies."
The telecom sector, critical for infrastructure, faces a significant challenge in cybersecurity readiness, despite 96% of organizations claiming to have comprehensive plans. A Semperis study involving 1,000 global participants from various industries revealed that while many organizations activated their crisis response plans frequently, a majority lacked effective execution when it counted. Blocking factors included inadequate team communication, outdated plans, and staffing deficiencies. Notably, telecom companies suffered high-impact cybersecurity events nearly twice as often as their counterparts in other industries, highlighting the urgent need to bridge the gap between crisis plans and their actual implementation.
