Tr*mp Mobile phones have barely been out a week & there's already a massive privacy breach scandal - Queerty
A phone preorder website exposed customers’ full names, phone numbers, and physical addresses after a long delay in delivering the device. About 27,000 early adopters waited nearly nine months to receive the phone. A security breach is now a concern due to weaknesses in the preorder site and the rushed, poorly assembled nature of the product rollout. A company statement claims credit card information is safe, but the exposure of other personal data can still enable identity theft, profiling, or other harmful uses. An independent Australian tech worker reportedly discovered the flaw and alerted a major outlet, which reviewed the issue.
"It all goes back to those early adopters who pre-ordered the phone last year and waited almost nine months to get the device in their hands. Not only did it take forever for the T1 to actually reach customers, those same 27,000 customers could now be facing a serious security breach thanks to the messy behind-the-scenes workings of the very obviously slapped-together Tr*mp venture."
"It would seem that the website where customers could preorder the T1 wasn't completely airtight security-wise. But don't worry, even though users' full names, phone numbers, and physical addresses were exposed, their credit card information would appear to be safe, per a statement from Tr*mp Mobile."
"Even without access to credit card info, this kind of breach can still cause problems for users whose data is potentially being mined for darker purposes. It's also not exactly a vote of confidence that it wasn't anyone working at Tr*mp Mobile who first noted the security breach-it was an independent Australian tech worker who discovered a flaw in the code and pointed it out to the Guardian, who then reviewed"
