US air force reverses ban on pronouns in email signatures and websites
Briefly

The US Air Force recently reversed its ban on using preferred pronouns in professional communications, including email signatures, which had been enforced following a Trump-era executive order. This change comes after the Department of the Air Force discovered that its prior directive was non-compliant with the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act signed under President Biden. The earlier ban, which demanded the removal of pronouns, was initially implemented in February but has now been rescinded, allowing service members and employees to identify their gender identity in communications once again.
On 2 April, the spokesperson said: The Department of the Air Force updated the policy to comply with federal law after it was brought to DAF attention that the Feb 4 policy was not compliant with the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act.
A spokesperson for the air force told the Guardian that on 4 February, the Department of the Air Force moved out swiftly to comply with Trump's executive order by rescinding previous DAF policy that allowed the use of preferred pronouns.
