Google clarifies: Android auto-restart security feature isn't live yet
Briefly

Google Play Services is set to introduce a new security feature that will automatically restart Android devices after they have been locked for three consecutive days. However, this feature is not yet active, as the user interface is still in development and an opt-in option will be provided for users to enable it manually. Once implemented, the feature will shift devices to a 'Before First Unlock' state, enhancing data security and making it harder to access data. A similar feature was included in iOS 18.1 last year, suggesting a growing focus on device security across platforms.
The new auto-restart feature will kick in if the device is locked for three consecutive days, enhancing security by moving it to a more secure state.
Even though it’s not live yet, Google has stated users will need to opt in to activate the feature through Settings when it becomes available.
While the feature's user interface is yet to be developed, it is anticipated to come soon, as similar functionality has been integrated into iOS.
This feature aims to enhance data security by placing the device in 'Before First Unlock' mode, where access is more restrictive than in 'After First Unlock' state.
