Mozilla, creator of Firefox, expressed concern that the DOJ's antitrust measures against Google could jeopardize its financial stability. In a recent court testimony, CFO Eric Muhlheim revealed that Mozilla relies heavily on Google, with Firefox generating around 90% of its revenue, 85% of which comes from Google. While the DOJ seeks to limit Googleâs search engine dominance, Mozilla fears that such measures, particularly banning default search deals, may weaken vital alternatives meant to foster competition in the browser market.
"Banning default search placement deals may weaken Google's grip, but it risks crippling the very alternatives meant to provide choice," said Sanchit Vir Gogia.
According to the report, Muhlheim disclosed that Firefox generates approximately 90% of Mozilla's total revenue, with about 85% of that revenue coming directly from Google.
Losing that revenue all at once would mean Mozilla would have to make significant cuts across the company," Muhlheim testified.
The stark assessment came as Mozilla CFO Eric Muhlheim testified in Google's defense against Department of Justice antitrust proposals.
