Signal has expressed significant concerns over Microsoft Recall's capability to snapshot private conversations without granularity in control for developers. The chat application, prioritizing user privacy, has invoked Digital Rights Management (DRM) functionality in Windows to prevent Recall from capturing screenshots of its content. This new setting, titled 'Screen security,' is enabled by default on Signal Desktop for Windows 11. Despite potential drawbacks, such as hindering legitimate screen capture needs, Signal sees DRM controls as essential in protecting user privacy amidst concerns over Recall's initial controversial implementation.
Signal explained: "Apps like Signal have essentially no control over what content Recall is able to capture, and implementing 'DRM' that works for you (not against you) is the best choice that we had."
Signal's new 'Screen security' setting on Windows 11 is designed to prevent automatic screenshot captures from Recall, underscoring the importance of chat privacy.
