On July 15, deputies responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a residence in Lynnwood, Washington, finding a boy had accessed a loaded gun and unintentionally fired it.
The boy's mother was hit in the upper left arm, and was seriously injured but not life-threatening, while the boy also sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Investigators found multiple unsecured firearms throughout the residence, leading to the boy's father's arrest for reckless endangerment and unlawful storage of a firearm.
In June 2024, a similar incident occurred in the Washington, D.C. metro area, when a 4-year-old girl accidentally shot herself with an unsecured ghost gun.
