More than 100 million people globally use e-cigarettes, including at least 15 million children, creating a new wave of nicotine addiction. Children are, on average, nine times more likely than adults to vape based on available global figures. At least 86 million users are adults, mostly in high-income countries, and at least 15 million teenagers aged 13–15 vape based on surveys from 123 countries. Many countries lack data or policy: 109 countries do not gather e-cigarette data, 62 had no policy by the end of 2024, and 74 had no minimum purchase age. Overall tobacco use has declined from 1.38 billion in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024, with notable decreases in prevalence among women.
