Two children were rescued from a locked car at Cumberland Mall in Cobb County, Georgia, after a bystander alerted authorities. The police arrived after receiving a 911 call about the children crying inside the vehicle. Officers comforted the toddlers through the cracked window before shattering it open for rescue. Surveillance footage revealed the children were left unattended for about 40 minutes, with the car's internal temperature reaching 117 degrees. Heatstroke can commence at a body temperature of 104 degrees, which poses a significant danger to the children.
The police department's post features body camera footage of the incident, capturing the moments when the children are pulled from the hot car.
In the clip, a person who appears to be a mall security guard confirms over the phone that surveillance video showed the driver of the car leaving it at approximately 12:24 p.m. and that police arrived on the scene around 1:03 p.m.
