Florida plans to end all vaccination mandates statewide, including school requirements for routine childhood vaccines that protect against Hib, pertussis, diphtheria, measles, tetanus, RSV, and polio. Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced the plan alongside Governor Ron DeSantis at a press conference. Ladapo called every vaccine mandate "wrong" and said mandates "drip with disdain and slavery." Ladapo argued there is "no ethical basis" for requiring vaccination to protect vulnerable people and described exposure of newborns and immunocompromised people to vaccine-preventable diseases as "part of the experience of life." Ladapo also labeled mRNA COVID-19 vaccines "poison."
"What I'm most excited about is an announcement that we're making now, which is that the Florida Department of Health, in partnership with the governor, is going to be working to end all vaccine mandates in Florida law-all of them, all of them, all of them, every last one of them," Ladapo said. "Every last one of them is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery."
