In December 2020, East Palo Alto faced a severe Covid outbreak, with infections spreading rapidly through households. This situation exacerbated existing despair, as jobs were lost and businesses failed, leading to tragic consequences like suicides. The local media, including the Daily Post, highlighted these issues and called for more action from local governments regarding testing and vaccine distribution. Unlike other regions, East Palo Alto received minimal attention for its crisis, as many local officials and other news outlets largely ignored the plight of the community.
