Marc Andreessen sold his Atherton estate for $27.2 million on Aug. 12 after listing it at $33.4 million. The 1.55-acre property contains three separate dwellings: a main house, a guest house and a detached studio. The main house spans three elevator-accessible levels and includes five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a fitness center, a cinema room and two kitchens; the guest suite has its own full kitchen. Outdoor features include curated gardens, grand fountains and tree-covered terraces. Andreessen and his wife bought the home in 2007 for $16.6 million. Andreessen has expanded holdings in Southern California, including a $177 million Malibu purchase.
With an estimated net worth of $2 billion, according to Forbes, Andreessen is among the most influential tech founders in an area that many CEOs call home. The Bay Area bigwig co-founded one of the first internet browsers, Netscape, in 1994, before pivoting to a highly successful - and even more lucrative - career as a venture capitalist. Many of the companies Andreessen's firm backed over the years created products that people the world over use on a daily basis, including Airbnb, Facebook and Slack.
Andreessen and his wife, Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen, purchased the home at 164 Elena Ave. in 2007 for $16.6 million, according to Zillow records. There are three separate dwellings on the 1.55-acre lot: a main house, a guest house and a detached studio. The main house spans three levels that are all accessible by elevator. It has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a fitness center and cinema room, plus two kitchens.
