The Zoning and Platting Commission approved a conditional use permit for redevelopment of 8301 Johnny Morris Road into a 131-acre, $253.5 million Austin Resource Recovery and Fleet Services hub. Construction is expected to begin this year and run through 2027. An earlier hearing nearly rejected and then postponed the permit after commissioners raised concerns about impacts on nearby neighborhoods, especially the new Colony Park development. Colony Park will convert 200 acres of city-owned land into a planned community with up to 3,000 residences in partnership with Catellus Development Corporation, the firm that built Mueller.
