Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos Have a Backyard Spaceship Now
"Jeff Bezos, a man who is obsessed with space (get a life!), put a spaceship in his backyard. Newly released aerial footage of the Amazon billionaire's $165 million Beverly Hills estate shows a to-scale replica of the Apollo 11 capsule. The New York Post called it putting "the final touches on his marital home." Bezos bought the compound and an adjacent $10 million lot from David Geffen in 2020 and has been renovating it ever since."
"In addition to a pool, volleyball court, and pickleball courts, the house has a spaceship. Some reports suggest it's a sauna, but a colleague here thinks it might be an Integratron-type sound-bath room for weird billionaire parties, since recreational psychedelics and New Age rituals seem to be a big part of their new personalities. Perhaps we will never know. The Post speculates that the capsule was potentially built by Timothy Oulton Studio, the designer of a very similar stainless-steel model spaceship"
"The estate itself was built by Jack Warner, of Warner Bros. fame, (also back in the news lately), and completed in 1937. When Bezos bought it, the Georgian-style mansion, designed by Roland Coate, had eight bedrooms and nine baths. Maybe some of them look like this now. Earlier this year, Bezos sent his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, on a girls' trip to space with Gayle King and Katy Perry. Perhaps the Apollo capsule is a tribute to that. Or maybe it's storage."
Jeff Bezos purchased a Beverly Hills compound and an adjacent lot from David Geffen in 2020 and has been renovating the property. The $165 million estate features a to-scale replica of the Apollo 11 capsule alongside a pool, volleyball court, and pickleball courts. Sources speculate the capsule serves as a sauna or an Integratron-style sound-bath room for private gatherings. The capsule may have been produced by Timothy Oulton Studio, maker of a similar stainless-steel seating spaceship in a London restaurant. The Georgian-style mansion was built in 1937 and originally had eight bedrooms and nine baths. Bezos sent his wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos to space earlier this year.
