NoHo's derelict Valley Plaza complex heads for demolition
Briefly

Los Angeles city commissioners voted to declare part of the Valley Plaza complex in North Hollywood a public nuisance, clearing the way for demolition of six buildings. The 17-acre shopping center has sat vacant since Charles Company purchased it in 2015, with neglected buildings and empty parking lots attracting squatters and repeated police and fire responses for crime, fires and unresponsive individuals. City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian said the ruined buildings have depressed commerce, degraded neighborhood quality of life and created real dangers for residents. An attorney for Charles Company said the firm sought demolition permits and is ready to proceed but was awaiting approvals; prospective buyers can still acquire the site to revive it.
These ruined buildings have cast a pall on the entire community, depressing commerce for our small businesses, degrading the quality of life for an entire neighborhood, and creating a real danger for the community, City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, who represents North Hollywood, said in a statement, per CBS News.
Once this shopping center was a source of pride to our community; now it's become a blight on the neighborhood and a constant danger to the public.
An attorney for Charles Company shifted the blame to the city, saying that the firm sought demolition permits and is ready, willing and able to go forward and demolish these buildings.
