9 ways you're making your wedding look cheap, according to a luxury planner
Briefly

A wedding's luxury stems from the guest experience, personalization, and thoughtful details rather than pure monetary spend. Curating an incredible party experience can make an event feel high-end even on a limited budget. Common planning missteps like cash bars, buffets, evites, and impersonal large guest lists can make weddings look and feel cheap. Prioritizing smaller guest lists and intentional, personalized touches improves atmosphere and perceived value. Simple planning switches that focus on guest comfort and thoughtful experiences can transform modest budgets into events that feel luxurious and memorable.
When planning a wedding, it can feel like every little detail, from the flowers to the cake, will make or break the event. Laura Ritchie, a wedding planner and one of the principal designers at Washington, DC-based Grit & Grace, told Business Insider that the key to creating a luxury wedding is curating an incredible party experience for your guests - even if your budget is more limited.
"Many people would say that the monetary side of a wedding would define it as being luxury," Ritchie, who has over 15 years of experience in the industry, said. "What I consider luxury is the experience and the thoughtfulness and the personalization that sets an event apart." However, it's easy for people to lose sight of that experience when they plan, making their wedding look and feel cheap.
