Help! My Mother Just Accused Me of "Cheating" With My Wedding Plan. Excuse Me?
Briefly

The letter discusses a woman's desire to formalize her marriage in a church setting after a pandemic courthouse wedding. Now financially stable and wanting to fulfill her dream of a wedding, she proposes a celebration at a family reunion. However, her mother disapproves, calling it 'cheat' behavior despite having expressed a desire to see her daughter married. The advice emphasizes that happiness should be prioritized over others' opinions, questioning why celebrating love is seen as attention-seeking.
The very idea of 'cheat' behavior is killing me. Cheating by ... what ... offering people a free meal? What is being obtained unfairly here? Attention?? Jesus Christ. In this moment in history if something makes you happy and doesn't hurt anyone, why wouldn't you do it??
We have had a real run of Crazy Wedding Relative Letters, which I guess makes sense because it's wedding season, but once again, this woman needs to calm the hell down. No one is 'cheating!' The LW is not pretending they aren't already married.
