Mourners at controversial bishop Brendan Comiskey's funeral told 'failure does not define a person's life'
Briefly

Bishop Brendan Comiskey, who passed away at 89, resigned from the Ferns diocese in 2002 amidst criticisms regarding his management of abuse allegations against Fr Sean Fortune. Comiskey's resignation spurred the Ferns Inquiry and the subsequent 2005 Ferns Report, which criticized the diocese’s handling of cases over four decades. During his requiem mass, Fr Jim Fegan emphasized that Comiskey, while flawed, was a product of his time, advocating kindness and dignity for all, reflecting on the complexities of leadership and legacy inherent in Comiskey's life.
Bishop Comiskey believed deeply in the power of kindness and that every person deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.
Leadership is never easy, and Brendan experienced his own unique mix of gifts, challenges and life lessons, and there were times when he felt he did not meet the expectations.
