In a recent podcast, Karl Rove critiqued GOP populists, particularly Senator Josh Hawley, for their stance against Medicaid cuts. Rove argued that Hawley's framing echoes Democratic rhetoric and undermines necessary reforms. He stressed that Republicans should prioritize fiscal responsibility and prosperity for all Americans rather than cater to populist sentiments that may jeopardize long-term financial stability. Rove expressed frustration at the current administration's attempts to appeal to voters through unsustainable policies, particularly regarding student loan forgiveness.
When you hear Senator Josh Hawley... he's pushing back against members of his own caucus... Any cuts to Medicaid are dumb. Behind this argument is, Our new coalition includes people who are on Medicaid.
