Boston Marathon winner John Korir sets course record as Kenyans sweep men's and women's races
""I knew I would defend my title, but I didn't know I could run my fastest. So for me, it was just go and defend my title, but the time came, so I'm happy.""
""It feels great. I'm really happy with it. I feel like this course challenges you so much, and I was able to overcome that challenge again.""
John Korir won the Boston Marathon for the second consecutive year with a record time of 2:01:52, breaking the previous record of 2:03:02. This performance ranks as the fifth fastest marathon ever. Korir's victory was marked by a strong finish, pulling away from competitors near Heartbreak Hill. Sharon Lokedi also defended her title in the women's race, finishing in 2:18:51, the second-fastest time in the event's history. She was followed by three other Kenyan runners in the top four positions.
