On June 13, Ukraine reported the successful repatriation of 1,200 bodies of soldiers killed since Russia's invasion, facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross. This repatriation falls under an agreement established during peace talks in Istanbul, which aims to return the bodies of 12,000 deceased soldiers from both sides. Despite this exchange, which saw no Russian bodies returned, the ongoing talks have not resolved the lasting conflict that has become Europe's deadliest since WWII, as both sides continue to conduct POW swaps.
As a result of the repatriation measures, the bodies of 1,200 killed were returned," Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said in a statement on June 13.
July 13, 2022 statement highlighted the ongoing negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing that the swap was part of an agreement brokered during direct peace talks in Istanbul.
