Chaz Bono marries his childhood friend of 40 years in "Hollywood glam" wedding - LGBTQ Nation
"I first met Shara more than 40 years ago when we were just teenagers. I think it's safe to say that not many grooms ultimately end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later."
"She makes me feel complete knowing she will always be there beside me as partner, my best friend, and the love of my life. No matter what life brings us, we will always be safer and stronger together ... and we are home."
Chaz Bono, 57-year-old transgender son of Cher, married Shara Blue Mathes in a Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel ceremony on March 8. The couple met 40 years ago at age 17 at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, began their romantic relationship in 2017, and have been partners for nine years. The "Hollywood Glam Formal" wedding featured purple, black, and red florals, with Bono in a black tuxedo and Mathes in a lace gown with white platform sneakers. Cher attended from the front row. Bono expressed that marrying his first kiss from decades earlier was remarkable, describing Mathes as his partner, best friend, and love of his life. Mathes previously worked at HIV nonprofit Housing Works and has a 25-year-old son from a previous relationship.
