Graham Linehan pleads not guilty to harassing trans woman
Briefly

Graham Linehan, known for his work on popular sitcoms, has pleaded not guilty in court to charges of harassment and criminal damage against trans woman Sophia Brooks. The alleged harassment occurred on social media and involved the damage of Brooks' phone during the Battle of Ideas festival, where Linehan was a speaker. He claims to defend women's rights against what he perceives as a damaging ideology, stating he has faced significant backlash over the years. He has been granted bail under conditions that restrict contact with the complainant, with a trial date set for September 4.
"For six years, ever since I began defending the rights of women and children against a dangerous ideology, I have faced harassment, abuse and threats."
The incident in which her phone was damaged allegedly took place at the Battle of Ideas festival on 19 October 2024, where Linehan was a speaker.
The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed Linehan had been charged with harassment without violence and criminal damage in April.
Deputy District Judge Louise Balmain said the trial is set for 4 September and freed Linehan on bail, with the condition he does not contact the complainant in the case directly or indirectly.
