4th Annual "Gamelan in the Garden" at San Francisco Botanical Garden
Balinese music and dance are presented by Gamelan Sekar Jaya at the San Francisco Botanical Garden on May 31. Gender Wayang performances run from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. in the Fountain Plaza, featuring four musicians playing ten-keyed gender instruments for Balinese shadow puppet theater. Jegog performances run from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. in the Great Meadow, featuring an orchestra of bamboo marimbas with tube keys ranging from small to gigantic, including bass jegogan tubes up to three meters long. Throughout the afternoon, Harmonic Drift joins as an immersive, interactive percussion ensemble-on-wheels. Paid events include an artist meet and greet from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and a final Gong Kebyar and Angklung performance from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., both with limited capacity and seating provided for the final show.
