Legendary SF Punk Club Mabuhay Gardens Is on the Verge of Reopening | KQED

Mabuhay Gardens holds a central place in San Francisco punk history. Tom Watson, a designer and civil engineer, is leading a revival effort with a group of investors, advisors, and supporters. The group includes Michael Sturtz, Bobby Fishkin, Jesse Elliott, Patrick Fenton, Lapo Guzzini, and David Fleming, and has been holding meetings with up to 20 participants to plan the space. The chief priority is honoring the wishes and vision of late owner Francesca Valdez, who took over in 1989 and died July 21 at age 71. The effort responds to a wider loss of live venues and creative talent in the Bay Area.
