In a recent poll, Archbishop Mitty's Laila Wang was recognized as the Bay Area News Group's girls high school athlete of the week for May 19-24, securing 36.49% of the vote. Wang achieved an impressive feat by going undefeated in the regular season for two consecutive years and teamed up with her sister Cynthia to secure an unprecedented fifth place at the NorCals. Their performance is noted as the best finish for any Mitty athlete in the regional badminton competition. Wang went undefeated in the regular season for the second year in a row and placed fifth alongside sister Cynthia Wang at the NorCals on Saturday at Independence High.
Wang had 36.49% of the vote with Willow Glen softball player Katelynn Dilbeck finishing second at 31.34%, and Dublin track and field athlete Emma San in third.
Theirs is the best finish any Mitty team or individual has ever had at the regional badminton competition, showcasing exceptional talent.
