Maria Feerick carried her daughter Jane for seventeen weeks before learning on August 7, 2025 that Jane’s heart had stopped beating. Kevin and Maria have continued grieving 284 days later, describing the experience as feeling like they were driving while a passenger died. With support from Féileacáin, a charity that helps parents after a baby’s death, they have found some closure. On May 30, they will hold a fundraising 5k run/walk in Hollymount, with proceeds going to Féileacáin. In August, they plan to mark Jane’s first birthday alongside their two sons, Tom and Ollie, keeping her memory through daily reminders at home.
"Maria Feerick, a mother-of-two from Barnacarroll, County Mayo, carried her daughter, Jane, for seventeen weeks before hearing the news no parent ever wants to hear. She sits next to her husband, Kevin, at their home in Ballinrobe in south Mayo, as she recalls August 7, 2025, the day she learned their daughter's heart had stopped beating. Two hundred and eighty-four days later, their grief is still raw."
"“I don't want to offend anyone about this, but I feel when you're carrying a baby, I felt like I'm the driver of the car and my passenger died,” Maria tells the Irish Independent. Through the help of Féileacáin, a charity that assists parents affected by the death of a baby, Kevin and Maria have gotten some closure."
"This Saturday, May 30, they will honour Jane's memory with a fundraising 5k run/walk in Hollymount, with all proceeds going towards Féileacáin. In August, they will celebrate her first birthday alongside their two sons, Tom (3) and Ollie (2). They carry her memory with them every day."
"Sitting atop a piano are two candles. The smaller one marks October 15, World Baby Loss and Remembrance Day while the bigger candle marks August 11, 2025, the day that Jane was “born sleeping”. In the corner hangs a collage of family photographs taken while Maria carried Jane, a constant reminder of the happy, exciting times the five of them shared."
