ICE raids have 'overwhelmed' coastal California communities
Briefly

California's Central Coast has witnessed a recent uptick in ICE raids, particularly affecting families. An incident at a gas station involved an arrest that left two children unattended, raising concerns among local organizations. Witness Juan Conches described the chaotic scene when ICE surrounded a man as he filled his truck, taking him while leaving his children behind. The children managed to call their sister for help, illustrating the emotional toll these actions have on families in the community. Nonprofit groups are highlighting the risks faced by vulnerable families amidst increased enforcement action.
Of the two young people left behind, one was identified by the organization as a minor, the other was reportedly 19, 'old enough to be alone but unable to drive, stranded, and powerless to leave.'
Several cars, including a Ford Explorer and Toyota Tacoma, then surrounded the man. 'There were at least six cars. There were a lot of cars,' Conches recalled.
Conches said that a man pulled up to the gas station at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday to fill up his truck.
Fifteen minutes later, I asked the kids what happened... They told me they took him. I then asked if I could move the truck to free up the pump.
