Many Sonoma State athletes moving on after sports programs cuts ruling
Briefly

Sonoma State University faces a significant budget deficit of $24 million, prompting controversial decisions to cut all athletic programs and certain academic classes. A recent court ruling dismissed a legal challenge from student athletes seeking to block these cuts, leaving many to consider transferring to other institutions. Interim President Emily Cutrer expressed understanding of the difficult implications for the community while ensuring transparency moving forward. Amidst the ongoing uncertainty, both student athletes and coaches are advocating for more dialogue with local legislators about the future of their programs.
"It's kind of like a stab in the back," said Morgan Kingsbury.
"Just knowing we came here to play four years of softball, got ripped out from under us," said Alexis Camberos.
"While the court ruling affirms Sonoma State's ability... I recognize the difficult impact on our community," said interim president Emily Cutrer.
"We're still fighting, I knew this would be difficult, still talking with local legislators," said men's soccer coach, Marcus Ziemer.
