When Panuco's 5-year-old son approached puppies in a cardboard box near the front door, three adult dogs attacked him. Panuco sustained multiple bites while shielding her child from the assault and died from her injuries. The boy was treated for two severe dog bites and released from the hospital. The three attacking dogs were euthanized. Panuco worked at the Colorado Indian Tribes Library and left behind two children. A fundraising page was established to support funeral expenses and therapy for her surviving family members.
