Liz Hamel, an 18-year-old freshman at UC Santa Barbara, tragically died following an incident in which she fell from a dormitory walkway. Just hours before her fall, she was recorded leaving a noodle bar with an unidentified man after celebrating Valentine's Day with friends. Despite attempts by her family to understand the situation, they are still searching for answers regarding her mysterious death. The incident has devastated her family, who remember Liz as a vibrant young woman excited about her studies and new life in California.
"It's been devastating. She was our only child. It's been a complete loss," Liz's father Alain Hamel told SFGATE.
"She was happy and excited to be here to start the new chapter in her life," Hamel family attorney Tyrone Maho said.
"She joined a sorority; she made friends. She had the entire world in front of her," Maho added, emphasizing her bright future.
Liz left her phone and identification in the restaurant, which friends later picked up after she was seen leaving with the unidentified man.
