The boy (7) who had 'a smile that warmed hearts and a laugh that echoed joy and spirit' is laid to rest in Sligo
Briefly

Alan's tragic drowning at Lissadell Beach left his family and community devastated. His Service of Remembrance highlighted his short but impactful life, with fellow pupils presenting symbols of his joy, from a Spiderman toy to a piece of art demonstrating his creativity. Father Martin Convey led the service, offering comfort to Alan's grieving family and friends, reflecting on love and the deep pain of loss that such a beloved child would evoke. The community came together to honor Alan's memory and support his family in their time of sorrow.
Fr Convey said they were gathered to support Alan's family at this difficult time. He was reminded that grief is the price we must pay for having loved. Little Alan was very much loved indeed, and so the pain of grief runs even deeper.
At exactly 11am on Thursday, Alan was brought to the altar in a bright white coffin with his photograph. Symbols of his short but rich life were brought to the altar by fellow pupils from his school.
The candles symbolize the everlasting light of Alan that will live in our hearts forever, while the Spiderman toy represents Alan's favorite character and color, red.
