New policing model is 'unmitigated disaster' breaking links between gardai and communities, garda bodies warn
Briefly

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) and the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) expressed deep concerns over the new Garda operational model during a Justice Committee meeting. They argued that the model, which centralizes policing into large divisions, has alienated local communities and strained resources. GRA General Secretary Ronan Slevin criticized the model as ineffective and detrimental to local policing, while AGSI General Secretary Ronan Clogher highlighted the difficulties in managing vast geographical areas. Both associations emphasized that the changes have broken the connection between gardaí and the communities they are supposed to serve.
This has created super-sized divisions that span across many counties and has starved communities of local stations and local policing.
Resources are being dragged away from smaller towns to provide cover for main towns that act as satellite hubs for the rest of the division.
