UPDATE - Day 7 of Corpus hearing, former assistant sheriff who was fired for participating in HR investigation testifies

Former Assistant Sheriff Ryan Monaghan testified that he was fired by Christina Corpus after participating in a county-commissioned inquiry by retired Judge LaDoris Cordell. Cordell concluded that Corpus and former chief of staff Victor Aenlle were more than friends and ran the sheriff's office through retaliation and intimidation. Detective Jeffery Morgan testified that he heard Corpus call Capt. Rebecca Albin a 'jew b****' while talking about other people. County Manager Mike Callagy blocked Monaghan's firing, kept him on the payroll, and Monaghan was later hired by District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe to direct a county human-trafficking project. Corpus is appealing the Board of Supervisors' decision to fire her.
So far during the Day 7 of in the removal hearings of San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, former Assistant Sheriff Ryan Monaghan testified about his firing by Corpus after he particiated in a county-commissioned report by retired Judge LaDoris Cordell came out. Cordell's report focused on Corpus and her former chief of staff, Victor Aenlle. The report said the two were more than friends and were running the sheriff's office through retaliation and intimidation. Cordell's report also concluded that the two were more than friends, something Corpus vehemently denied during her sworn testimony last week.
11 a.m. - The county called their second-to-last witness, detective Jeffery Morgan, who testified on hearing San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus calling Capt. Rebecca Albin, a \"jew b****. Corpus was talking about other people, and her comments about Albin stood out to him.
Monaghan was fired by Corpus after she learned he spoke to retired Judge Cordell for her investigation into the sheriff's office. Ultimately, County Manager Mike Callagy blocked Monaghan's firing, fearing it would result in another lawsuit against the county due to Corpus' actions. Callagy kept Monaghan on the county payroll until he was hired by District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe to work in a newly-created position as director of a project to combat human trafficking throughout the county. He's working out of an office in the Redwood City Police Department. Monaghan and Callagy previously worked together in the San Mateo Police Department.
