Heavy rains in Mogadishu have caused major flooding, leading to at least seven deaths and severe damage to roads and infrastructure. The flooding, which lasted for eight hours, submerged several neighborhoods and left residents trapped. With nine houses reported collapsed, the situation remains dire, and rescue operations are ongoing. The Somalia Disaster Management Agency is assessing the damage, while the Ministry of Energy and Water warned of potential flash floods in other regions. Key transport services were interrupted, including operations at Aden Abdulle airport, although flights have since resumed.
Floodwaters also damaged key infrastructure, halting public transport and temporarily disrupting operations at the main Aden Abdulle airport.
The death toll could rise because the rains were heavy and lasted for several hours, causing nine houses to collapse across different neighbourhoods.
