Some benches have already been taken down by individuals or neighborhood groups, indicating mixed reception within the community regarding the installations.
The SF Bay Area Bench Collective stated that providing seating at bus stops was necessary due to the lack of accommodations for riders in San Francisco.
Public Works Department spokesperson Rachel Gordon emphasized the importance of assessing the unauthorized benches and mentioned that they would like the Bench Collective to remove them.
