SF City Hall Not at All Pleased With Those Guerilla Benches' That Some Renegades Placed at Bench-Less Muni Stops
Briefly

Transit activists known as the SF Bay Area Bench Collective installed guerilla benches at San Francisco bus stops which previously lacked seating. Despite being an urban center, San Francisco's bus stops are poorly equipped, often lacking crucial facilities. The Public Works Department and the SF Municipal Transit Agency have expressed intentions to remove these benches, referencing them as 'mystery benches.' Some benches have already been taken down by individuals or neighborhood groups, indicating mixed reception within the community regarding the installations.
The SF Bay Area Bench Collective stated that providing seating at bus stops was necessary due to the lack of accommodations for riders in San Francisco.
Public Works Department spokesperson Rachel Gordon emphasized the importance of assessing the unauthorized benches and mentioned that they would like the Bench Collective to remove them.
