The San Francisco Police Department is set to enhance its technological capabilities through a $9.4 million donation from Chris Larsen, co-founder of Ripple. The funding will facilitate the relocation of the Real-Time Investigation Center, which utilizes drone footage and automatic license plate readers, to new premises in Ripple's offices. The center has been instrumental in hundreds of arrests and has contributed to a 30% drop in crime across the city, according to Mayor Lurie. The police commission has already approved the donation, pending Board of Supervisors' approval.
"The Real-Time Investigation Center has supported our understaffed Police Department and helped keep our neighborhoods safe," said Lurie in a statement.
"RTIC has already supported hundreds of arrests, with crime down 30% citywide, and with this new facility, the SFPD will have the tools and the technology it needs to take this work to the next level and help our officers keep our streets safe."
