Waymo acknowledges its vehicle hit a San Francisco corner store cat

"KitKat was the beloved shop cat of Randa's Market, a corner store on 16th Street, between Valencia and Albion. Late on Monday night, KitKat was hit by a car on 16th street. Eyewitnesses alleged that the vehicle was a Waymo. KitKat was taken to an emergency vet but died later that night. On the sidewalk outside Randa's Market, customers of the store have set up a memorial shrine in the cat's honor."

"The trust and the safety of the communities we serve is our highest priority. We reviewed this, and while our vehicle was stopped to pick up passengers, a nearby cat darted under our vehicle as it was pulling away. We send our deepest sympathies to the cat's owner and the community who knew and loved him, and we will be making a donation to a local animal rights organization in his honor."
