The Valley Transportation Authority board unanimously voted to join the regional transit funding measure SB 63, co-sponsored by Scott Wiener and Jesse Arreguin. This decision follows a similar vote by the SamTrans board, expanding the measure to include five counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Mateo. If the Legislature approves SB 63, a measure will appear on the November 2026 ballot. Conversely, the Bay Conservation and Development Commission has decided to close the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge bike lane on weekdays, allowing all six lanes to be designated for cars.

If approved by the Legislature, SB 63 will authorize the Bay Area to place a measure on the November 2026 ballot.
The votes are a show of support for the measure and mean the measure will be expanded to include five counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Mateo.
