The Rockies officially parted ways with general manager Bill Schmidt this morning, finalizing what had become an expected decision after one of the worst seasons in MLB history. The Rox have already announced they'll go outside the organization for their next baseball operations leader. That alone is a change for a franchise that has promoted from within for its past two GM hires. Jeff Bridich and Schmidt had each been longtime members of the Colorado front office before ascending to the top of the staff.

It was quite a moment: The favorite son and the face of the dynasty, back in the Bay to save the organization and that faded black-and-orange tradition he helped build. So, a year later, what have we actually seen change? Not much, if we're being honest. The Giants are still a thoroughly .500 outfit, staring up at the blinding lights of the Dodgers and the perpetually contending Padres.

I have ideas. I have people in mind, but I'll keep that to myself right now,

For the second straight year, Duane Kuiper has been recognized as one of the top broadcasters in Major League Baseball. The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced its ballot for next year's Ford C. Frick Award, which is given to one baseball broadcaster each year at the hall's enshrinement weekend. Kuiper, who began calling Giants games in 1986 after retiring from his playing career, has been nominated five times now but has not yet won the award.

"Everybody's probably for it at this point," said manager Bob Melvin. "You saw how many misses there were in spring training and there's so much information now that, like anything they've done here recently, they're trying to get it right and make it better."

They told me to get to know the guys here, get to know how everything works, just be around the guys and get used to it, Rodriguez said. Rodriguez, 23, didn't spend a ton of time catching in the Yankees' system due to New York's abundance of catching prospects, catching only 172 games over six seasons in the minors. Along with catching, Rodriguez has played first base, second base, third base and left field to get his bat in the lineup.

In other news, the Dodgers lost a catcher ahead of the eventual defeat. A National League rival claimed the backstop off waivers after he made just one appearance in Dodger blue during his time with the organization. Additionally, LA added a familiar veteran pitcher this week amid their bullpen struggles. The right-hander was designated for assignment earlier this month and didn't see much success during the end of his Dodger tenure.

Bryce Eldridge, less than a week into his major-league career, remains in search of his first hit. That milestone, among others, should come in due time. While still batting .000, Eldridge has shown small glimpses of the promise that made him one of baseball's top prospects. His at-bats have been good, said manager Bob Melvin of the Giants' top prospect. We'd love for him to get his first hit and get that out of the way, but he has not looked overmatched.

BALTIMORE -- Giancarlo Stanton became the sixth player to hit his 450th career home run in a New York Yankees uniform in Saturday's 6-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Alex Rodriguez (2006), Gary Sheffield (2006), Mickey Mantle (1964), Lou Gehrig (1937) and Babe Ruth (1928) also achieved the feat with the Yankees. Stanton is the 41st player in MLB history to reach 450; it's the most home runs among active hitters.

Three and a half months after Rafael Devers' sudden swap to the San Francisco Giants, the "main" piece in the deal finally takes the spot he was purported to have had when the trade went down. Today Kyle Harrison is making his Red Sox starting pitcher debut. And while about three months ago I wouldn't have been excited about that in any form of the word,

The A's will place Gelof on the 10-day injured list tomorrow, and needless to say, Gelof's 2025 season is now officially over. The dislocated shoulder is a rough ending to a season already marked by notable injuries for the 25-year-old infielder, as hamate bone surgery and then a stress reaction in his ribcage prevented Gelof from making his 2025 debut until July 4.
