The Giants sought pitching over the winter without appearing likely to spend at the top of free agency, prompting trade chatter about including Bryce Eldridge in a package for a controllable starter like MacKenzie Gore. Eldridge, 21, has largely shrugged off the speculation and said he wants to stay with the team. The 16th overall pick in 2023 spent most of last year at the top two minor-league levels, hitting 25 homers and posting a .260/.333/.510 line across 433 plate appearances. The 6'7" prospect struck out over 29% of the time but hit above average at both stops and received a mid-September callup. He underwent postseason surgery for a left-wrist bone spur, said he is essentially at full strength and is in the final stages of his hitting program, and should enter camp healthy to battle for a first-base/designated-hitter role split with Rafael Devers.
