Giants Reassign Third Base Coach Hector Borg
Hector Borg, 40, has worked for the Giants since 2008 and was reassigned from third base coach to a player development role. Ron Wotus, 65, will handle third base coaching on an interim basis while the team searches for a full-time replacement. Borg managed the Dominican Republic at the 2023 World Baseball Classic and was promoted to the MLB staff for the first time last offseason. The Giants’ baserunning has been poor, with Statcast ranking them alongside the Angels as the worst overall baserunning teams in MLB and with 14 stolen bases, the lowest total in the league. Borg’s third-base coaching included multiple runners caught, including Willy Adames being tagged out at the plate with one out in the bottom of the eighth during a 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks. Wotus previously coached under various Giants managers dating to the 1990s, retired from full-time coaching after 2021, and has worked as a special assistant for more than four years, including handling third base for a few days last week while Borg was away.
