Green Day headlined the first day of BottleRock Napa Valley, celebrating their Bay Area roots with a lively 90-minute set. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong made various local references, paying homage to small cities like Vallejo and Vacaville, much to the delight of the audience. He also altered song lyrics to critique political issues, ensuring relevance to current events. The setlist featured classics from "Dookie" and "American Idiot," along with tracks from their upcoming album, while Armstrong engaged fans with humorous introductions and acknowledgments of fellow Bay Area celebrities attending the show.
I'm not part of the MAGA agenda, sang Armstrong to thunderous applause from the home crowd. It was one of the few outwardly political moments in the show.
Hey, this goes out to Vallejo, to Vacaville to Fairfield to American Canyon, sang Armstrong. shouting out four nearby, but not particularly famous, North Bay cities.
From the marijuana capitol of the world, Mendocino County, Mr. Tré Cool! said Armstrong, spotlighting his drummer and nodding to the copious amounts of smoke billowing from the festival.
The track list pulled mostly from the band's two most iconic albums - 1994's "Dookie" and 2004's "American Idiot," along with songs from their newest album, 2024's "Saviors."
