SF Giants radio booth voted best in baseball in new audience poll
"Sports media blog Awful Announcing published a ranking of every MLB franchise's radio broadcast team on Tuesday based on the votes from their readers that were converted into a grade point system. In the past, the blog has ranked the television broadcast teams of nearly every major sports league, but this was their first foray into the MLB radio booth."
"Perhaps the most impressive part of this honor is that the Giants' radio team did so well with so many different voices coming in and out of the booth. All four of the primary broadcast team work less than a full season's worth of games, and Ritzo and Santangelo have become the go-to backup team on many road trips. Krukow will occasionally slide over to the radio side if the game is a national TV broadcast. On games where one of Miller or Flemming aren't there and the Giants have three total broadcasters for TV and radio, Kuiper trades booths for the middle three innings"
A national fan poll ranked every MLB franchise's radio broadcast team and placed the Giants' radio group first. The lead voices are Jon Miller and Dave Flemming; Duane Kuiper, Joe Ritzo, Mike Krukow and F.P. Santangelo were also highlighted. Voter comments were mostly complimentary, with some saying the Giants had the best combined television-and-radio team and comparing the booth favorably to Vin Scully's. The Giants' booth features many rotating voices: four primary broadcasters work less than a full season, Ritzo and Santangelo serve as road-trip backups, Krukow fills in for national TV games, and Kuiper swaps booths for middle innings. No other top-five team had more than four rotating voices; Boston matched six radio guys in the top half of the rankings.
